The Hungarian Civil Liberties Union is a human rights NGO. Since our foundation in 1994, we have been working for everybody being informed about their fundamental human rights and empowered to enforce it against the undue interference by those in position of public power.
On 7 Nov, 2006 the Court of the Capitol obligated the Budapest Police Department (BPD) to let HCLU access the data requested in May, 2004.
The case was started against the Ministry of Finance after it denied access to data on public spending deficit of a hundred billion HUF.
On 6 Oct, 2006 the European Union and the United States finally came to an agreement on sharing air passenger data.
HCLU was appalled to learn that the General Assembly of the Municipality passed a rule on 26 Oct, 2006, regulating the public space usage in the Capitol.
The Inter-American Court of Human Rights has declared that everyone has the right to access to states’ public interest data. This is the first precedent when an international court admits such a wide range of human rights.
The Worst EU Lobbying Award will be presented again this year. Winners will be announced in two separate categories at the end of the year.
